Pick up that mouse and start designing…

To gear up for our big launch I wanted to make sure that everyone actually knows how to design a t-shirt. So hear comes all of the tech stuff that might put you to sleep.

If this keeps you up all night then we know that you are the right person for Project Shirts. Put your irons and color printers away and start saving some cash.

What software should you use? Adobe Illustrator.

Illustrator is a vector based graphics program. Images are based on a mathematical equation and lines are drawn between 2 dots. A vector graphic will not lose any quality if the size of an image is enlarged or reduced. The learning curve for this software is pretty high so if you would like to become efficient I would start now. Another viable option would be CorelDraw, but I am biased to Illustrator.

If you are interested in printing photo type images then Adobe photoshop would be the answer. Again this has a high learning curve but once mastered anything you can imagine can be accomplished. One thing to keep in mind is that photoshop is a raster/bitmap based program. Images are drawn according to dots/pixels. If you increase the size of your image you will lose the sharpness of you image and it will become blurry.

To start learning these programs I would suggest going to lynda.com. This site has tons of short video tutorials that will step you through all of the different tools to both programs.

Download the trial versions and start creating a design that you would like to have on your shirt. If you can see it in your head then eventually you will be able to create it.

Good Luck and have fun designing!

3 Types of Tees

Since I am in the shirt business now I decided that I should do some reading up on what shirts are.

There are three different types of t shirts. The Polo, the Henley, and the t shirt. Since this is going to be a t-shirt company we will start with t shirts. Then depending on popular demand we can do some prints on some henley’s and embroider some polo’s. Are you wondering what they look like?

Shirts for Everyone

How much would you spend on a t shirt? Unless it is really soft I usually spend around 20 to 30 dollars on a shirt. I really like the American Apparel cut but everything they have is either plain or stripes.

I went to vegas this last weekend and they had the end of the season shirts sale. Almost every outlet store that I went to had all short sleeves 3 for 30. This was far from the american apparel plain or stripes designs. These were the super branded t shirts. Logos vs logos. Sometimes I felt like I was an exchange student from japan because I couldn’t understand what I was reading on the shirts. I could read what it was saying but had no clue what it meant.

Volcom, Hurley, Element, Billabong, Fox, DC, Vans… You name it they had all of their short sleeve shirts on sale for 10 bucks. The only problem with all of the shirts were they were almost what I liked to wear. Some were too loud, some were not loud enough. Other shirts had a v so deep that my nipples would show. Yikes, no one wants that. In the end I came home with 3 shirts after looking at 100+.

This reminds me why Project Shirts is up and coming. I would rather go to a community of t shirt designers and have super original designs on the cut of shirt than get a great deal on tons of t shirts that I would never wear. I’m pretty sure that if I come up with all of the sayings that are printed on our shirts only a select few would understand them… and that’s exactly why I am turning you all of you out there to design your own nonsense that makes perfect sense to you.

Naked no more!

Who google likes for “shirts”

If you google “shirts” the top 3 sites are tshirthell.com, bustedtees.com, and threadless.com. I was looking around trying to see what the top shirt sites are doing and was wondering what you guys would like for a shirts site.

Here is what I learned.

1. Tshirthell.com – Sexy is better. It reminds me of a time that I was in Japan. There was this 50 foot tall billboard with a naked chick with her arms wrapped around an M16 Machine Gun. My buddy just stared at the ad. After awhile I nudged him to get his attention. All he said was, “wow, nice gun.”

2. Bustedtees.com – When you are happy you buy more- Everybody likes a funny shirt. It advertises itself to the community that likes the joke on it. The only thing I would be concerned about is how funny are your jokes?

3. Threadless.com – Personalized and original. This site surrounds itself in the tshirt design community. You can follow your favorite designers. This site makes you feel like it was made for you.

I am biased to the threadless.com type of site. If clothes define a person I definitely want a say in what I am going to be wearing.

So what would your tshirt say? Would it make my head spin? Would it make my face hurt? Would it tell your story?

I hope it will do it all.

My new design idea for the day- “Ugly People make Better Lovers” (you come up with the image yourself)

Project Shirts

Hey all you out there in the digital world.

Today I am officially starting project shirts and I,m calling all designers. Do you know anyone who ever wanted to design there own shirt? Maybe you do. Maybe your 80 year old grandma does. I know I want to design more than just one t-shirt. I want a shirt that says “F*ck you Comfort, I’ve got style.” There will be a chubby kid trying to squeeze his super skinny jeans over his thighs.

Would you wear it? (I have no clue why I want to design that. I just do)

I am creating a company that will mass produce your t-shirts. Shirts that you would wear. Shirts that scream your personality and your style.  It doesn’t matter what others design cuz they will be high quality threads with your design on it. No more hanes with permanent marker or iron ons for you.

The only challenge will be getting your shirt more popular than anothers…..

What  project shirts consist of…

  • Men’s shirts
  • women’s shirts
  • original shirt design
  • kid’s shirts
  • funny shirts
  • trendy shirts
  • Collaboration
  • Competition
  • Conquest!

Soon I will come up with the rules and regulations. So if you have an idea or something you have always wanted on a shirt… start designing today and send it in. I’ll be posting more soon!
